Hailing from a mountain town on the Wallkill River, Jake Toth’s hometown setting is a major factor in his playing and writing style. Only at the young age of 19, he has managed to cause enough ruckus for an entire life’s worth of songs and poems. Many of his songs are very naturalistic–taking the listener through drug abuse, addiction, poverty, and more importantly, observation of human activity. Writer and musician Garrett Lions called Toth, “[a] prolific Naturalist with his rambling shoes tied.”

A comedian, actor, magician, and improv artist, this former college hockey player and engineering student approaches comedy with both a playful innocence and a hard-edged analytical point of view. Whether he’s talking about turning mathematics and physics into comedy material, highlighting hilarious gender differences, reflecting on the perils of being turned into 24-hour tech support by a computer-challenged mother, or using hockey analogies for dating, Erick’s unique and ironic way of looking at life gives audiences something to laugh – and think – about. His physical act-outs and character voices tell a hilarious story of a recovering geek trying to understand the world and make his place in it. Erick’s boyish, likable persona makes it easy for him to connect with audiences, and his amusement over life, people, and himself makes others happy when he takes the stage.

Erick received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute followed by a graduate diploma in Management Studies from Cambridge University (UK) and started doing stand-up after realizing he didn’t do well in captivity. Now Erick features and headlines at clubs across the East coast as well as working colleges and corporate functions. He’s opened for nationally touring comedians like Dave Attell (Insomniac Tour), Colin Quinn, and Last Comic Standing winners Jon Reep and Josh Blue. He has worked several times with the Killers of Comedy from the Howard Stern Show including at Caroline’s in New York City. Erick was on the Nobodies of Comedy tour in 2008 and again in 2009. He is a co-creator/performer in the comedy/magic duo Departures which specializes in corporate entertainment.

As a writer, Erick is published in Reader’s Digest magazine as well as writing commercial spots for corporate clients.

Erick has been a member of the professional improv theater group The Mop & Bucket Company.

As an actor, Erick has played a range of roles including playing a shy geek in The List – a pilot for MTV; playing the lead antagonist in American General – an upcoming PBS documentary on the life of Benedict Arnold; and playing a suicidal inmate for a NYS Correctional Facilities training video. He has starred in several television commercials including MVP Healthcare’s Fall enrollment campaign, and New York State OTB’s Capital Cash campaign.
